What You Should Know About Leveling Kits

TPMS Light. TPMS Service. Tire Sensors

A leveling kit is an aftermarket suspension modification designed for trucks and SUVs to raise the front of the vehicle to match the height of the rear. This adjustment eliminates the factory rake, where the rear sits higher than the front, providing a more balanced and leveled appearance. People choose to install leveling kits for various reasons, including improved aesthetics, the ability to fit larger tires, enhanced off-road capability, and a more even weight distribution, which can improve handling and ride quality.

Types of Level Kits

Level Kit Spacer

The above is an example of a level kit using a spacer.

A leveling kit can lift the front of a truck or SUV using either spacers or new struts, each with distinct differences and benefits:

Spacer Leveling Kits: These kits use spacers installed on top of the vehicle’s existing struts or coil springs. Spacers are cost-effective and relatively easy to install, making them a popular choice for those looking to achieve a leveled appearance without significant modifications. They maintain the factory ride quality and are ideal for mild lifts.

Strut Replacement Leveling Kits: These kits involve replacing the factory struts with longer or adjustable struts designed to provide lift. This method can offer improved performance, as it allows for better tuning of the vehicle’s suspension. Replacing the struts can enhance ride quality, handling, and durability, especially in off-road conditions, but it tends to be more expensive and may require more complex installation.

Choosing between these options depends on the desired balance of cost, ease of installation, and performance improvements. We at Salinas Tires usually recommend a spacer level kit for casual driving or a strut level kit for dedicated offroad enthusiasts.
